now apparently among many
elderly who do not work.
There are several conditions
that restrict employment opportunities for older workers (Hurlock, 1994): (1)
Mandatory Retirement, the government and most of the industries / companies
require employees to retire at a certain age. They no longer want to hire
workers who are approaching the age of mandatory retirement, due to the time,
effort and money to train them before the work is relatively expensive (2) If
the company personnel held a younger person, then the elderly is difficult to
get a job (3) social attitude. Belief that older workers susceptible to
accidents, because of slow work, need to be trained to use modern techniques is
a major barrier for companies to hire the elderly (4) fluctuations in the
business cycle. If business conditions bleak the elderly the first to be laid
off and then replaced by a younger person if business conditions had improved.
